Selecting the best of New York City’s arts scene
Summertime in New York City means art time! Why? Because where there’s art, there’s air conditioning. (Also, beautiful things to look at and learn from, but right now the air conditioning is a little bit more important.) What we like best is to go gallery hopping; that way we can cool down, warm up again, then go back into a cool space. Our ‘Opening This Week’ pick of The Jane Hartsook Gallery at Greenwich House Pottery and ‘Gallery Shows’ featuring JTT gallery are just about 20 minutes apart on foot, long enough for being outside, maybe stopping somewhere for refreshment, then heading back indoors. It’s an ideal way to spend a couple of hours in the city.
Then this weekend, it’s off to Philadelphia, and a chance to relax with great food, interesting people, and some first-rate art. With our ‘Arts Outside NYC’ list in hand, we’ll be visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Barnes Foundation, The Franklin Institute, Institute of Contemporary Art University of Pennsylvania, Fabric Workshop and Museum, Vox Populi, and Mural Arts Philadelphia…and if we don’t see everything, we’ll be back next weekend!
