The Super Colossal Museum Shows
Biennials, triennials, and quinquennials…the contemporary art scene of NYC is overloaded with massive museum shows this fall and next spring. Of course, you could skip them: often difficult, complicated, and unwieldy, with ideas and execution ranging from adequate to superlative, these exhibitions are trials of endurance that no visitor should have to undergo. But for those willing to try (or who prepared beforehand by reading our excellent reviews), the thrill and delight of discovering an artist you didn’t know about or seeing a fantastical display that stays in the memory for years afterward, is always a pleasure.
