The many art shows and fairs held in New York City within the year reflect an astonishing diversity, in all senses of the word. There’s the high end of the art market with rare and unusual objects, where the cost is often as much the point as the possession, to be mentioned every single time an item or owner is discussed. Following this is the mid-range: artworks that will build or expand a collection, creating more value (emotional or financial) in later years. Finally, there’s the straightforward this-is-art selection; involving items that are usually meant to stand alone as a visual shorthand for an owner’s style, taste, or in a worst-case scenario, sense of humor. All these options are available to view within every show and fair, making each an anything-can-happen event worthy of New York City.
